Tailoring of advanced poly(lactic acid)‐based materials: A review

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) stands out as the most promising biodegradable alternative to conventional petrochemical-based polymers for manufacturing of high-performance materials applied in medicine, pharmacy, food, textile, and electronic industry. This review was aimed present up-to-date technologies PLA processing including melt blending molding, hot extrusion, 3D printing, foaming, impregnation, thermally induced phase separation, nano- microparticles preparation, wet dry spinning processes. In addition, effect parameters polymer characteristics on properties final material elaborated. Diverse possibilities tailor PLA-based by variation concentration, solvent selection, drying method, pressure temperature, incorporation bioactive components, so were highlighted. The examples relations between methods, parameters, end-product are given a better understanding all aspects that need be perceived fabrication with required performances.
